Literacy Support

Literacy is a well-researched foundation to educational success, and Plymouth PTA supports our students’ literacy skills in numerous ways.

Reading is Fundamental

Our partnership with Reading is Fundamental Southern California (RIF SoCal) allows us to give three new high-interest books to each student every year. In conjunction with each of the three book giveaways, Plymouth PTA also plans a school-wide literary event which can include assemblies from guest authors, Books & Blankets (where parents are invited to share lunch and a favorite book with their students), as well as special literacy-focused assemblies.

Birthday Books

Not only does Plymouth PTA get books into homes through RIF SoCal, we also celebrate each student with a book of their choosing on his/her birthday!

Inspiring Library

Plymouth PTA also helped our school win a $10,000 library grant offered through the California State Treasury through their ScholarShare contest. We have updated our library to be a fun, inspiring environment and are continuing to use these funds to update our book collections on an ongoing basis. (Before winning this grant, over 80% of our library books were over twenty years old!)

Between RIF SoCal, our Birthday Books program, and other literary events like author assemblies, Plymouth PTA gave out over 2,000 books to our students last year!
